089.Surat Al-Fajr (The Dawn) – سورة الفجر
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
[In the Name of ALLAH, THE ENTIRELY MERCIFUL, THE ESPECIALLY MERCIFUL]
89:1
وَالْفَجْرِ
Pronunciation
Walfajr
Translation
By the dawn
89:2
وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
Pronunciation
Walayalin AAashr
Translation
And [by] ten nights
89:3
وَالشَّفْعِ وَالْوَتْرِ
Pronunciation
WashshafAAi walwatr
Translation
And [by] the even [number] and the odd
89:4
وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ
Pronunciation
Wallayli iza yasr
Translation
And [by] the night when it passes,
89:5
هَلْ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِي حِجْرٍ
Pronunciation
Hal fee zalika qasamun lize hijr
Translation
Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?
89:6
أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Pronunciation
Alam tara kayfa faAAala rabbuka biAAad
Translation
Have you not considered how your LORD dealt with ‘aad –
89:7
إِرَمَ ذَاتِ الْعِمَادِ
Pronunciation
Irama zati alAAimad
Translation
[With] iram – who had lofty pillars,
89:8
الَّتِي لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Pronunciation
Allatee lam yukhlaq misluha fee albilad
Translation
The likes of whom had never been created in the land?
89:9
وَثَمُودَ الَّذِينَ جَابُوا الصَّخْرَ بِالْوَادِ
Pronunciation
Wasamooda allazena jaboo assakhrabilwad
Translation
And [with] samud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
89:10
وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِي الْأَوْتَادِ
Pronunciation
WafirAAawna ze al-awtad
Translation
And [with] pharaoh, owner of the stakes? –
89:11
الَّذِينَ طَغَوْا فِي الْبِلَادِ
Pronunciation
Allazena taghaw fee albilad
Translation
[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
89:12
فَأَكْثَرُوا فِيهَا الْفَسَادَ
Pronunciation
Faaksaroo feeha alfasad
Translation
And increased therein the corruption.
89:13
فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ
Pronunciation
Fasabba AAalayhim rabbuka sawtaAAazab
Translation
So your LORD poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
89:14
إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِالْمِرْصَادِ
Pronunciation
Inna rabbaka labilmirsad
Translation
Indeed, your LORD is in observation.
89:15
فَأَمَّا الْإِنسَانُ إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَأَكْرَمَهُ وَنَعَّمَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَكْرَمَنِ
Pronunciation
Faamma al-insanu iza maibtalahu rabbuhu faakramahu wanaAAAAamahu fayaqoolu rabbeeakraman
Translation
And as for man, when his LORD tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, “My LORD has honored me.”
89:16
وَأَمَّا إِذَا مَا ابْتَلَاهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّي أَهَانَنِ
Pronunciation
Waamma iza ma ibtalahufaqadara AAalayhi rizqahu fayaqoolu rabbee ahanan
Translation
But when HE tries him and restricts his provision, he says, “my LORD has humiliated me.”
89:17
كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ الْيَتِيمَ
Pronunciation
Kalla bal la tukrimoonaalyateem
Translation
No! But you do not honor the orphan
89:18
وَلَا تَحَاضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
Pronunciation
Wala tahaddoona AAala taAAamialmiskeen
Translation
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
89:19
وَتَأْكُلُونَ التُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا
Pronunciation
Watakuloona atturasa aklanlamma
Translation
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,
89:20
وَتُحِبُّونَ الْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا
Pronunciation
Watuhibboona almala hubbanjamma
Translation
And you love wealth with immense love.
89:21
كَلَّا إِذَا دُكَّتِ الْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا
Pronunciation
Kalla iza dukkati al-ardudakkan dakka
Translation
No! When the earth has been leveled – pounded and crushed –
89:22
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
Pronunciation
Wajaa rabbuka walmalaku saffansaffa
Translation
And your LORD has come and the Angels (P.B.U.T), rank upon rank,
89:23
وَجِيءَ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ الْإِنسَانُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ
Pronunciation
Wajee-a yawma-izin bijahannamayawma-izin yatazakkaru al-insanu waannalahu azzikra
Translation
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell – that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?
89:24
يَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِي
Pronunciation
Yaqoolu ya laytanee qaddamtu lihayatee
Translation
he will say, “Oh, i wish i had sent ahead [some good] for my life.”
89:25
فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُ أَحَدٌ
Pronunciation
Fayawma-izin la yuAAazzibuAAazabahu ahad
Translation
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as HIS punishment,
89:26
وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُ أَحَدٌ
Pronunciation
Wala yoosiqu wasaqahu ahad
Translation
And none will bind [as severely] as HIS binding [of the evildoers].
89:27
يَا أَيَّتُهَا النَّفْسُ الْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ
Pronunciation
Ya ayyatuha annafsualmutma-inna
Translation
[To the righteous it will be said], “O reassured soul,
89:28
ارْجِعِي إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً
Pronunciation
IrjiAAee ila rabbiki radiyatanmardiyya
Translation
Return to your LORD, well-pleased and pleasing [to HIM],
89:29
فَادْخُلِي فِي عِبَادِي
Pronunciation
Fadkhulee fee AAibadee
Translation
And enter among MY [righteous] servants
89:30
وَادْخُلِي جَنَّتِي
Pronunciation
Wadkhulee jannatee
Translation
And enter MY Paradise.”
